The Princess and the Stinky Cheese, by Lauri Meyers

Here's my entry for the Fractured Fairy Tale Contest. It was a difficult decision, but I chose Lauri Meyers's The Princess and the Stinky Cheese.

Thanks to Lauri for letting me illustrate her story!

Lauri has put together all the contest illustrations for her story and the full text of  The Princess and the Stinky Cheese on her blog. Pop over and take a look!

    1. Thank-you. I owe it all to Lauri's inspirational story . . . an illustrator's dream. (And to Susanna's brilliant idea, of course.)

  2. Wow! Joanne! This is amazing! I love all the details! And your disheveled princess who truly looks as though she has just been bushwhacking and might well have a nose full of mud! And the fainting queen :) Great job! Thanks so much for entering!

  3. Joanne, This is really great. The Queen has fainted so elegantly, and the prince is on his way down. I love that Princess Peabody takes a second to wring out her hair before confidently facing the cheese. Brilliant! And the royal boxer- of course! Boxers are notoriously stink producing, making it an obvious breed to pick:)

    1. Can't you just wee the title floating across the cover in sickly greenish-yellow? Lauri, I think you win for most illustratable story! Thank-you for the excellent source of inspiration.

  4. FABULOUS, Joanne!!! The characters are just divine - and their various poses are hilarious. Love that you integrated characters of color - it didn't occur to me until I was done. Something I need to remember in future. I'm learning so much from this challenge.

  5. I really love that you brought in multiculturalism! And I agree with Lauri that the queen has the most elegant faint...LOL!

    1. Thanks. I drew the fainting pose first, then photographed myself doing it, then tweaked the drawing. It's not nearly as elegant in real life. I may post the sketches sometime, but you won't see my photo on here anytime soon! LOL
