SkADaMo 2013

Hurry, hurry! Step right up! See the cutest monkey on the planet! Sketch a notebook full of characters! Watch your creativity grow!

It's time again for Linda Silvestri's Sketch A Day Month. Why should writers have all the fun? Linda challenges herself to posting a sketch each day in November, and invites everyone along for the ride. No pressure. No rules.

Her challenge is the perfect compliment to the PiBoIdMo or NaNoWriMo events, or just a great exercise for warming up each day.

Grab a SkADaMo badge and leave Linda a comment.

I participated in both Picture Book Idea Month and Sketch A Day Month last November, and I can tell you, it compounded my creativity. Besides, it's a blast seeing what crazy critters Linda comes up with each day.

What challenges have you set for yourself this fall?

  1. Thank you for sharing this! I'm in! I like how this one is a lot more laid back... I would really love to enter PiBoIdMo... but I feel like it's more for the professional industry... and that I'd just be making a fool of myself as someone who just wants to play along casually.

    1. I look forward to hearing what you learn about yourself, Heather. I hope you get the opportunity to post some sketches next month.

I'm sorry you feel that way about PiBoIdMo. It probably isn't for everyone, but it is a great community of ordinary people: all ages, all careers, all stages. The goals are to help us train our brains to be on the lookout for ideas and to get us moving in a direction of productivity. It is so easy to let our creative impulses get pushed aside in favor of chores, errands, etc. November gives us the chance to create without guilt.

PiBoIdMo is aimed at helping people who want to take their stories further. Tara offers tools which make the road to publication easier to navigate, but I have never felt anyone looked like a fool. And I have never felt anything but welcomed by other participants.
I hope you'll read Tara's blog throughout the month and jot down your own ideas. They're too valuable to let slip away! Happy creating!!

  3. Oh I'd like to do this one too but I think I would be over committing. I really enjoyed looking at some of your sketches, lots of life in them : ) Have a great November!

    1. Thanks for the words of kindness. My plan this year is to post a lot of my daily sketches here in November, so stay tuned. Last year I chickened out a lot (plus I'm technologically challenged.)

As for SkADaMo, it's a no guilt thing. It's great that you're committing to writing 30 pb ideas. That's plenty for now. (BTW, 'love your work!)
